Rhino Hero Board Game Spotlight

When I think of Haba I think of Rhino Hero. It's the little game you find at most game stores... unless you are looking for it. Then you can't find it anywhere! This is what happened to us. We have visited many game stores along our travels and have not been able to find a copy. We finally got a tip in Virginia about a little toy and book store that might have it.

This shop was super cute and had a pretty decent selection of board games. We looked and looked. The shopkeeper looked and looked. It was in the computer, but where was it in the store? Adam finally found it in the clearance area, but, it was Rhino Hero Super Battle. We live in just 98 square feet and have two small shelves dedicated to games. Super Battle is about 10 times bigger than its predecessor. The tot loves the app so much and really had his heart set on getting the game, so we brought it home! Here is what the game is about...

Rhino Hero is back on the job! And this time, not only does the wobbly skyscraper need to be climbed, but there will be fierce battles between four superheroes: Rhino Hero himself and three new additions: Giraffe Boy, Big E. and Batguin. Who will win the battles and successfully fend off the mean spider monkeys? A turbulent 3D stacking game and the long awaited stand-alone sequel to our Fan Favorite "Rhino Hero".

to make a long story short, we are going to make room for this massive game. We have spent so many hours laughing and playing together as a family. Sometimes the laughing does knock over the building we are constructing and that leads to more hysterics. All four of us can play and enjoy the time. In a typical game, the tot (5) is placing his sections of the building as precariously as possible and the rest of us try desperately to keep it from tumbling to the ground. He really keeps us on our toes. The tot can place walls in places you wouldn't think possible and still not knock down the structure, while we barely breathe and it collapses.

Not long after, we got Rhino Hero the original in the mail. Ahhh, what a nice small box! Of course, the tot was just extatic to have more Rhino Hero. We were stacking cards in no time flat. Here is the description of Rhino Hero...

What is that? Is that a rhino climbing up the wall? Rhino Hero is out and about again. The super hero from the animal world fearlessly scales the highest houses looking for burglars and rogues. He is strong as a lion and as smart as a fox, but also as heavy as a rhinoceros. So when Rhino Hero is around even the most robust tower may start to wobble. Can you help Rhino Hero accomplish his wobbly construction mission and build a skyscraper as tall and solid as possible? A heroic 3D card-stacking game!

We have really enjoyed both games and would reccommend either. I mean, probably the original more if you live in a tiny home, due to size. They are both great games and have a unique feel. The artwork in both is the same fun cartoon feel and both have you stacking cards to make a structure.

Rhino Hero has you building a straight tower with short walls as tall as you can. All the players can move the Rino Hero meeple up the tower. It also has some special powers, like making people draw cards or skipping someone's turn.

In Rhino Hero Super Battle, the building is much more vast. The base of the building can have multiple rooms. There are two sizes of wall, so the heights of the rooms can vary. Some rooms even utilize both wall heights making it a challenge to place the room in a place where that works. There are monkeys to hang on the ceilings and each player gets their own animal hero to move around. Both add to the challenge of keeping the building balanced.

If you like dexterity games like Jenga, Tinderblox, or Junk Art, you are going to love Rhino Hero in either form. It has great table presence and is going to draw a crowd at your party or game event. Just don't let the encroaching crowd bump the table!
